Circular Tangrams

A Modern Innovation on an Ancient Chinese Recreation

The TANGRAM is an imaginative puzzle invented in China thousands of years ago. The traditional tangram set consists of 7 pieces shaped with straight edges cut from a standard rectangle.

From these simple pieces one can invent an unlimited collection of recognizable or abstract patterns, shapes and forms. Some of these designs have become famous for their beauty or difficulty in reconstructing them.

By inventing the
Circular Tangram
I've extended
the possibilities
for developing
such designs.
A mathematical construction
dissects a rectangle
into 8 pieces
combining straight
with circular edges.

In this booklet can be found:

  1. A cardboard page on which are printed two copies of the rectangle and the pieces which can be cut out with scissors or knife

  2. 14 puzzles. 3 are illustrated on this page. All of them require that one use up all the pieces of the Circular Tangram Set.

  3. A diagram which shows how the rectangle and 8 pieces may be reconstructed with ruler and compass.

The price of "Circular Tangrams" is $10.
